This project discusses the history of amateurism and professionalism in sports in Ancient Greece and in the American university since the late 1800s. On the basis of literature and archival research, the author specifically focuses on the construction of the meaning of these concepts, their changes over time, the implications of certain definitions, and the way in which they are imposed on societies in the past. |
